Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is Aliyah?

Aliyah is the Hebrew word for “ascent.” Today it refers to Jewish people returning to live in Israel from the nations where they have been scattered. God speaks of bringing His people back to the land He promised them many times in Scripture.

Why should Christians care about Israel?

Israel and the Jewish people are close to God’s heart. Scripture shows God keeping His covenants and promises to Israel, and Gentile believers have a part in His plans, including praying for Israel and blessing the Jewish people.

Does God still have a plan for Israel?

Yes. Paul writes, “God did not reject his people, whom he foreknew” (Romans 11:2). Scripture shows God keeping His covenant promises to Abraham’s descendants, including bringing them back to their land, and it describes Gentile believers as grafted in alongside Israel, not replacing it (Romans 11:17–18).

How can Christians pray for Israel?

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6), for Jewish people to know their Messiah (Romans 10:1), and for those making Aliyah and the ministries helping them. Isaiah 62:6–7 calls believers to be watchmen who pray and do not keep silent. The free 21-day Explore God’s Heart for Aliyah devotional gives daily prayer points.
