For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” – Romans 8:15
Some things you can do today with God’s name
- There are only three references for the word “Abba” in the New Testament. Jesus used it once and Paul twice. Look at the other references, below.
- Abba is a personal, intimate term for the Father, like Dad or Daddy. Meditate on what it means that God is not like an absent, overstressed, abusive, or preoccupied father. Your Heavenly Father always has time for you.
- I love spending time sitting on my Daddy’s lap, talking and listening to him. When I slow down enough to hear Him, He has amazing things to say.
- Take some time today to talk to Abba, Father, your Daddy.
In Mark 14:36, Jesus said, “Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”
Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” – Galatians 4:6
I pray Abba will draw you closer to Himself today, as you take time to be with Him.
