But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved.) – Ephesians 2:4-5 NKJV

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately

  • An easy way to understand the difference between God’s grace and His mercy is: Grace is God giving us what we don’t deserve. Mercy is Him not giving us what we do deserve.
  • I’m so grateful that God doesn’t give me what I deserve. I deserve to go to hell, because I’m a sinner. But I don’t have to—that’s mercy. Instead I get to go to Heaven—that’s grace. I am so blessed. And so are you. Consider that.
  • Here is an example where human language struggles to express infinite truth. God’s rich mercy is so great, so wonderful and so tremendous that it will take eternity for us to experience it fully. Ask the Lord to show you the depths of His mercy toward you. Don’t forget to listen for His answer.
  • In what ways have you seen God’s mercy in your life?
  • In what areas do you need God’s mercy?

A Prayer for You

Lord, I praise You that You are infinitely rich in mercy. Your mercy never ends. I deserve to be punished for my sins; instead You paid for my sins so I can have a relationship with You. Thank You for Your great love for me. Help me to learn to understand how much You really do love me.
