And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever. – John 14:16 ESV
Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately
- This name is also translated as Counselor, Comforter and Advocate. Meditate on each of these names of the Holy Spirit. What stands out to you today?
- John 14:26 says, “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (ESV).
- In what ways do you need a helper? Ask Him. He’s always ready to help you. Do you need a counselor? The Holy Spirit is the best counselor you can have. Are you sad or grieving? If you need comfort, remember, the Holy Spirit is always right there with you and He’ll bring you comfort.
- Do you need an advocate, someone to stand up for you? The Holy Spirit is your advocate before the Father, but He will also be your advocate here on earth.
- I have seen the Holy Spirit be all of these things for me at different times of my life. He helped me raise my sons alone. He counsels me and guides me in the directions I should go in my writing. He comforts me when I feel lonely. He was my advocate when I was sued by people buying a home from me. What do you need from the Paraklaytos?
A Prayer for You
Holy Spirit, I’m so grateful that You are my Helper, my Counselor, my Comforter and my Advocate. Thank You that I can always depend on You to be there for me. Draw me close to Yourself. Teach me more about who You are. I want to learn to live in a closer connection to You.
