God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus. – Ephesians 2:6
Think about God sitting in heaven, on His throne. He is the King of Kings. He has ultimate authority and power. Now, think about the fact that you are seated with Him. Notice that is past tense. It’s already done. However, I believe we can choose whether or not we want to sit there with Him on a daily basis. God gave us free will. We can choose to live in the pits if we want to. We can choose to let stress overwhelm us if we want to.
I believe that because we are sitting with Christ and God in the heavenly realms, we have authority over the enemy. Because we are raised with Him, we share His authority.
I had read this verse numerous times over the years, but never really understood it. I even wrote my college thesis on the book of Ephesians—so I spent many, many hours studying it. However, there were some concepts I didn’t understand, so I just sort of skipped over them. When I first started to understand this concept, it began to transform the way I think and the way I pray.
If I’m seated with Christ, that means I have His authority over the enemy, if I choose to accept it. And so do you. Every day I start out in prayer taking that authority over the enemy.
I pray that God will use this verse to transform you, your prayer life and your ministry—whether your ministry is being a mom or dad, or you are the head of an international mission organization or you’re somewhere in between.
