Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the LORD will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the LORD from saving, whether by many or by few.” – 1 Samuel 14:6
Jonathan was King Saul’s son, but he was also the future King David’s best friend. You can read 1 Samuel 14:1-14 about Jonathan’s bravery.
LORD, written in all capitals, is the Hebrew word, YHWH, said Yahweh or Jehovah. The Jews considered this name of God so holy that they would not even say the name. It means the Self-Existent One, the One Who is, the Intimate, Unchangeable God, the Covenant-Keeping God. This name of God has so many meanings.
Meditate on it today and all the various meanings.
Look what this verse says about the LORD: Nothing can hinder Him from saving, whether by many or by few. What area of your life do you need to see God work? Think about the fact that nothing, absolutely nothing can hinder God from doing whatever He wants. I’d encourage you to read the whole passage, beginning with 1 Samuel 13:5, which tells who Jonathan and his armor bearer were up against: 3000 chariots, 6000 charioteers and soldiers as numerous as the sand on the sea shore. Two men, Jonathan and his armor bearer went against this whole army and they were victorious, because Jonathan knew His LORD.
