A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in His holy habitation. – Psalm 68:5 NKJV
Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately
- The Message translates this verse, “Father of orphans, champion of widows, is God in His holy house.”
- Ab means father. Yatom means fatherless, coming from the root meaning to be lonely, an orphan or a bereaved person.
- Think about this name. If you haven’t had a father who was there for you, or your dad died, the Lord wants to be your Father. He is your Father. He is everything that a good father should be and so much more.
- Ask the Lord to show you how He is your Father, whether or not you have an earthly father who is there for you.
- Thank Him for being a Father to the fatherless.
A Prayer for You
Father, thank You that You are a Father to the Fatherless. Thank You that You care for me and love me so much more than any earthly father ever could. Please heal my heart from any and all wounds I’ve received from my earthly father (or lack of one). Remind me that You are the best Dad I could ever want.
