This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…’ – Matthew 6:9

Some things you can do today with God’s name

  • Meditate on this name today. What does it mean to you that you have a Father in heaven? What is He like? If you don’t have a very good earthly Father, ask the Lord to show you how He is different.
  • It’s easy for us to see our Father in heaven the same as our earthly fathers. That couldn’t be further from the truth for most of us. For me it’s easy to picture my heavenly father as loving and kind, because my earthly father is that way. Even still, I know that my Dad in heaven is so much more loving and caring and always, always, always available for me.
  • Take some time today to thank the Lord that He is your Father. Ask Him to show you more of Himself.
  • Ask the Lord to open the eyes of your heart to see more of what heaven is like. One time when I asked the Lord to show me heaven, I could see my heavenly Daddy and Jesus playing games with my son, Daniel. They were running around, having fun!! And surprisingly, I saw Ian, my fiancé who was killed, playing with them. Isn’t God good!! I pray that today God will show you a picture of any of your loved ones who have gone ahead of you. Yes, we grieve for them, but we can also rejoice that they are in an amazing place with the Father.
