Then his people recalled the days of old, the days of Moses and his people—where is he who brought them through the sea, with the shepherd of his flock? Where is he who set his Holy Spirit among them, who sent his glorious arm of power to be at Moses’ right hand, who divided the waters before them, to gain for himself everlasting renown… – Isaiah 63:11-12
Some things you can do today with God’s name
- Meditate on God’s glorious arm of power that was with Moses, but is also with you.
- How can God’s arm be glorious?
- In what ways have you seen God’s arm of power at work in your life?
I once saw God’s “glorious arm of power” at work. Within a minute, a few lazy raindrops turned into a gale force, tornado-like wind, lashing out against everything in its path.
My son, Timothy and I stared in fascination as the angry wind whipped the pounding rain and hail every which way. It pummeled the restaurant windows, where we were eating, blinding us to our car about ten yards away. Driving home less than an hour later, the main highway to our house was closed westbound. Why? It was covered with hail, and an SUV was stuck in it. I forgot to say, this was July. Colorado weather can be unexpected, but this was crazy.
When we got home, our grass was covered with hail, with over 3 inches piled on one side of the yard. The next day, I assessed the damage. Trees and plants were stripped of leaves, branches broken, and houses were plastered with leaves. My roof and fence were pock marked and my house-paint looked like it was sand blasted—or rather rock blasted.
People everywhere complained about the damage from the storm.
My insurance adjuster arrived the next day. After assessing the damage, she informed me, “We’ll pay for a whole paint job, a new, upgraded roof and stain for your fence. The amazing thing—I needed new paint and a new roof, but didn’t have the money to pay for it. But an even more amazing thing—my next-door neighbor’s house didn’t have any damage to their paint—they are about ten feet from mine. It seems God targeted my house with the fury of the storm, just to bless me. To provide in a very unexpected way. God used the winds, whipping the rain and hail to bless me.
Next time you are faced with a storm, stop and look for God’s arm of power at work in it.
