Yet it was He who filled their houses with good things, so I stand aloof from the counsel of the wicked. – Job 22:18 NIV

Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately

  • How has God filled your house with good things? No matter how old or worn your things are, God has still given you everything. And if you compare what you have with many of the very, very poor people around the world, you are wealthy. It’s easy to compare ourselves with those who have more than us, but that only makes us discontent.
  • I’ve been looking at the things I have in my house, thanking God for each one. For example, I’m so grateful for my nice, soft couch. I have no idea how old it is; I got it from a garage sale seventeen years ago. When I choose to be thankful for the things I have, God fills me with joy. If I focus on how old my stuff is, how do you think I would feel?
  • Look around your house and thank God for everything you see. It’s amazing how being thankful can change your perspective and fill you with joy.

A Prayer for You

Thank You, Lord, that You are the One who has filled my house with good things. You have given me so much. Forgive me for taking for granted what You have given me. I want to have a heart full of gratitude for You and what You have done for me.
