It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. – 1 Peter 1:12
Some things you can do today with God’s name
- First of all, we see that the Holy Spirit is from heaven, but He doesn’t stay there.
- Think about this: since the Holy Spirit is sent, that means that He doesn’t just come and go on His own. Who sends Him?
- Where was He sent?
- In John 16:7 Jesus is talking about sending the Holy Spirit when He says, “But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.” Read that whole passage in John 16 to see more about why the Holy Spirit came to help us.
- Thank the Holy Spirit right now that He came from heaven to live in you and help you live the Christian life. Thank God that He was willing to send the Holy Spirit, knowing that we wouldn’t always treat Him very well, including our ignoring Him and His work in our lives.
My prayer, and I trust it is yours too, is, “Holy Spirit, reveal more and more of yourself to me. I want you to have your free reign in my life, to work in any ways that you want to.” I realize that can be a very scary prayer, because He might want to do something that seems “weird” to us or makes us uncomfortable. I’ve learned that it’s worth trusting the Holy Spirit and allowing Him to do whatever He wants to do in my life and in my family. He really does have my best interests in mind—even when it doesn’t seem like it. Will you trust Him today and pray that prayer, above?
I pray God’s greatest blessings on you as you learn to trust the Holy Spirit more and more and you allow Him to do whatever He wants in your life.
