But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. – Acts 1:8 ESV
Steps on Your Journey to Know God More Intimately
- Hagios in Greek means holy, sacred, pure and blameless. There are other spirits that are not holy. We need to make sure we are connected with the Holy Spirit of God and not to evil spirits.
- Pneuma means spirit, breath, breathe or wind.
- John 20:21-22 says, “So Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.’ And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’” (NKJV). This shows what Jesus said and did to the disciples right after He was raised from the dead. Consider this last symbolic act of Jesus. Why do you think He breathed on them?
- Acts 1:8 contains the last recorded words of Jesus before He was taken up to Heaven. Notice what He says will happen when the Holy Spirit comes on them.
- Meditate on the Holy Spirit. Ask God what He wants you to know about Himself through this name.
A Prayer for You
Holy Spirit, I praise You and thank You for Your presence in my life. I want to get to know You in deeper ways and experience more of Your power. Please teach me about You. Show me how I can be better connected with You.
