The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge. – Psalm 18:2

He is my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Some things you can do today with God’s name

  • A stronghold protects you. It is a place you can go to for protection. I think about Norad, a military stronghold deep under Cheyenne Mountain near Colorado Springs. When people are in there, they are safe from any enemy attack. Close your eyes and imagine the Lord as your Stronghold—like Norad, only much more secure. Nothing—absolutely nothing and no one—can get to you when the Lord is your Stronghold.
  • In Psalm 27:1 David wrote, “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life—of whom shall I be afraid?” What is one fear you face? Ask God to show you Himself as your stronghold. Give your Stronghold all your fears today. He’s big enough to protect you.
  • As you go through today, meditate on God as your stronghold, the One who protects you from harm.
  • Share Psalm 18:2 with a friend today (without looking, if possible). Talk about each of God’s names in this verse.
